Beach Day
[Closed RP with
happysweets. Canon divergent after the Yotsuba arc.]
With the Kira case still wide open and L still eyeing him as a suspect, Light's reluctant to pull away even for a day. But his absence is starting to be felt heavily by those in his life outside the task force, especially after his long confinement and being handcuffed for surveillance. Reassurances are necessary now to avoid more problems later. The last time he'd seen Misa, she was too eager for his recognition, and he'd realized that while she can work diligently and devotedly on her own for him, he has to do his part for her as well. It will help keep her focused on their work. And it's been months since he's seen his sister.
Which is why Light's now wearing swim trunks under his shorts and holding a bag of things he'll need for a beach day. Just a normal day out for a normal college student. What's going on at headquarters still pulls heavily on his thoughts, to the testing L's doing with the notebook that could clear or damn him. But there's nothing to do but wait. A day away won't shift the game in L's favor. Probably.
Light takes a breath and exhales. There's nothing else to do for it now. Patience.
They agreed to meet at the train station, and Light's early. With his bag over his shoulder, he pulls out his phone to see if he's missed any messages. Sayu and her friend arrive first, and they chat playfully for a bit, with Sayu teasing him that there's such a thing as being too busy.
Ryuk is easy to spot first, flying over Misa's shoulder, but Light waits a bit for her to come closer before pretending to notice her and waving. Even away from headquarters, they have to be careful. Sayu's friend makes an excited giggle when she spots the pop star and Sayu nudges her. That's no surprise. Light's hoping the girls all get along, and maybe Misa won't be so devotedly focused on him.
"Good morning, Misa. You look great," Light says pleasantly, because he knows she probably put a lot of thought into her outfit. He lets Sayu introduce her friend Mei, and they have a few minutes before their train arrives.

Still, her minor annoyance at the day completely turned around just by seeing Light's face. Looking at him smile instantly has an effect on her that turns her legs into gelatin, but she still gives her best smile and gives him a little pirouette, just to show off the clothes she took so long to choose.
"I wanted to make sure I wore something you'd love!" She says with a grin, before introducing herself to the somewhat starstruck Mei; being a model has its perks, and the attention was nice, but she's hoping to stay somewhat low-key today just so she's able to have enough privacy with her precious Light...
And speaking of, she can tell there's something on his mind as they wait on the train and have small talk; it probably had to do with Ryuzaki and the Death Note they had gotten off that creep Higuchi. She was sure that he had a plan in place, just as Rem had said, but still...
Don't be so nervous!! Everything will be fine, right? ٩(๑❛ワ❛๑)و
She can't help but indulge her curiosity and text him while Sayu gossips with her friend.

Light's mild curiosity at who Misa is texting is satisfied when his pocket buzzes a moment later. Of course she was texting him. He makes a point of not looking at her as he pulls out his phone, since they're apparently being discreet. As he reads over the text, Light wonders if L's keeping track of his phone and text records. Probably. There’s no way he could derive anything from this, right? It can't be helped, but it's nothing incriminating. Although Light knows her real meaning, he texts her back as a cover:
Sorry, I guess I’ve been working too hard. Today at the beach will be great, and Sayu's really excited to see you again.
The train is approaching, and he doesn’t want anymore texts that L can read. He moves to her side and places his hand lightly on her lower back, hopefully to distract her from texting back. They'll have time soon enough to talk.
While on the train, Sayu and Mei become distracted with some magazine that Mei's pulled out. With the moment of space, he leans close enough to smell the sweet scent of Misa's shampoo and quietly asks, "How're you really doing? I worry about you."

Her face is red enough that the girls might actually notice and start to giggle. There can be no doubt: when she's around Light, Misa is butter. On the train, when he leans into her, closer than she can remember him being in what felt like ages (blame those pesky handcuffs getting in the way of their privacy!), she looks back at him with those innocent eyes, trying her best to keep her own voice hushed in turn as she whispers what one would probably assume are sweet nothings into his ear.
"I'm with you, so Misa-Misa is perfect."
Knowing Light worries about her, though...it's not often he says things like this, but it makes it that much more special when he does.
"I'm worried about you, though. You'd probably rather be back at the headquarters, right?"
